(or - nadis)
72,000 Nāḍīs flow through the body – In which your Prana (vital energy) have full permission to move through. One of my teachers Shankara (@stevefazzari) taught me that these are also considered psychic channels. I took a psychic development class with him once and it was surely something. Different breathing techniques than I had ever experienced - and since then I've played on them slightly as I found them to be insightful, and powerful in introspection.
Ida, Pingala, Sushumna carry the title of the 3 fundamental Nāḍīs
L E F T S I D E
Ida – Y I N
Passive, Feminine, The Moon
Tamasic (calm, relaxed, inert)
R I G H T S I D E
Pingala – Y A N G
Active, Masculine, The Sun
Rajasic (fire, energetic, dynamic)
C E N T R A L
Shushumna – N E U T R A L
Mid line, balanced, gracious, home to 7 main Chakra placements
Sattvic (harmony, balance, equilibrium)
I had been told by an excellent friend of mine and fellow Yoga teacher Rachele @skullydipie that the Nāḍīs are most highly concentrated around your pelvis and heart space. This could be a lot to do with why the hips and heart hold so much, emotion, anger, experience, tightness, openness, all of it. And why movement and opening - along with deep inner understanding of why we do what we do and acknowledgement of what has happened to us is ever so important to allow these energetic areas to be free.
